Lake March

What

โ€˜Lake Marchโ€™ was a spontaneous dance and music performance unfolding along the pathways of Lakes Burley Griffin, Ginninderra and Tuggeranong across two weekends in August 2020. Families, friends and exercise buffs of all ages flocking to the Lake to fill up on nature, gossip and sweat unsuspectingly were treated to an artistic happening, a shared moment of surprise, reflection and joy.

Along the waterโ€™s edge, eight dancers cPurge SG Cacheontinuously moved in a spatially distanced procession to live musical accompaniment honouring the watery spaces as places of connection, reflection and for some, trauma.

Ignited by the turbulent context we experienced globally in 2020, the artists drew on notions of absence โ€“ of human-to-human touch, of a just and stable world, of collective joy โ€“ experiences for which we yearn.

Lake March was awarded a Canberra Critics Circle award for โ€˜courageously working within the restrictive conditions generated by Covid-19 to bring an innovative and entertaining production of dance and live music, presented in several outdoor venues, to an audience of dance goers and the wider Canberra Communityโ€™.

โ€˜Lake Marchโ€™ is presented by the Where You Are Festival with the support of the ACT Government. With thanks to the support of arts ACT, QL2 Dance, Lorna Sim, Maxim Chartered Accountants, All Insure and Michael Whaites

The Nelken Line

World famous director, Pina Bauschโ€™s โ€˜The Nelken Lineโ€™ was released to be performed by citizens across the globe, uniting communities amidst the covid-19 pandemic. On the 16th of August, Australian Dance Party was joined by dancers and dance lovers from the Canberra community in a filming of โ€˜The Nelken Lineโ€™ to share with the international community on the Pina Bausch Foundation website here. We would like to thank the Pina Bausch Foundation for this initiative.
