The Grass Ceiling is a new contemporary dance/theatre work in development for 6 female identifying and non-binary performers exploring gender equity. Led by Alison Plevey and Sara Black, we dove into the worlds of sports, science, politics, business and arts to undertake research and development for this new site-specific work set in the Woden High Performance Cricket Centre. Reflecting upon achievements made and the ongoing challenges of gender discrimination we used a physical language that fuses the common languages of athleticism, discipline and technique in sport and dance. Unravelling like a sporting match, a game with rules bent and twisted, upheld and broken – Can we all be part of a fair game?
The Grass Ceiling had its first development in February 2023 and is currently looking for further opportunities for future developments.
